Through a large scale which forces me to constantly displace myself both spacially and emotionally, I furiously paint the faces of loved ones that I could not bare to see leave this world. This way of painting leads to the meeting of challenges that the face presents through and honest and intuitive manner while I articulate an otherwise shallow field of depth to appear volumetric based on the relations one facet of the face next to another. My visages appear as if they were made of flesh and bone since the importance of the painting doesn't rely in the draftsmanship, but rather the building of a space where every segment is essential, yet can be estimated in its application. The work results in a painted monument that reveals itself slowly to the viewer through the variations of marks made on the canvas, separtaing it's emotional impact into two distinct categories, relational and autonomous. Just as the subject, the work stands alone to be interpreted, but it always stands with a heavy heart or the prospect of the sublime.
